Then finally National (or SGI-USA) after Territory (3 Territories - East, West, Central).

Hey JO. that was a great question. I like the answer too - especially the part about basic unit of communication as Dan described below. But if I understand his correctly, this would be the flow of communication. Dan, can you confirm?

Districts
Chapter
Area
Region
Zone
Territory

Thanks,
Ambergriss

Districts are considered the 'front-line' of organizations. Districts themselves may be split up into 2-4 smaller groups (we used to call them hans, or small groups). First thing I have to say is, don't consider them hierarchies in the sense of bottom-to-top, etc,, if you can. It's kinda hard sometimes to think of them that way. Let's call it the basic unit of the organization in terms of communication. Next order would be chapter. They may comprise of 2-4 districts themselves. I thnk after that, is Area. They may comprise of 2-6 chapters or more (I think -- it depends on the population/urban or rural, and the widespread distribution of where members are). I believe next is Region which comprises of so many areas. And after Region, is Zone. After Zone, it's Territory. I haven't looked at leaders manual in a while, so things may have changed lately. -D

Thanks,
